What is a Semi-Inground Swimming Pool?

You have decided you want the enjoyment and convenience of a swimming pool in your own backyard. However, your backyard may pose a variety of challenges that makes you think a pool isn’t a possibility. No worries! There is a pool designed specifically to meet these challenges — semi-inground swimming pools!

What is a Semi-Inground Swimming Pool?

There are three basic types of pool installations. Most people are aware of the first two, but you may have thought a pool will not fit your yard. The good news is with the third type, it probably will.

In-Ground Pools: These are the typical pools we have all seen that sit in a hole in the yard and sit level with the ground. Many people embellish it with a walkway or patio around the pool for convenience at ground level.

Above Ground Pools: You are familiar with this style. It sits directly on the ground. You access it with steps going up and then down into the pool. Some people build a deck around it for lounging and access.

Semi-Inground Pools: This style of pool is partially sunk into the ground in a variety of ways. It is partially in the ground and partly above the ground. Why would you want this? Let’s look at a couple of options and discover the reasons you might choose it, and the benefits you will find.

Three Reasons a Semi-Inground Pool May Fit Your Landscaping

You already know you want one, but now you must consider how it will fit into your backyard’s pre-existing landscaping or what you want to add after the pool goes in.

Your yard has a slope, and there is no level area to fit a pool.

This is one of the best reasons to consider a semi-inground layout and installation. You can dig into the side of a slope or hill, so that part of the ground is level with one side of the pool, and the other side is exposed. A beautiful deck will finish the look. You can take it all the way around, or partially and add steps to the lower section. This layout is perfect for adding multi-level interest in the design of your yard. Consider adding lounging to both ends of the pool and have two levels of relaxed seating.

Your yard doesn’t allow you to dig deep enough for an in-ground pool.

You may live in an area where the ground is too rocky and dense, and it will cost too much to get to the depth you need. Another perfect case for a semi-inground set-up.

You do not want to obstruct your view with an above-ground pool.

Do you have a view to die for and don’t want a pool blocking the enjoyment? Installing your pool part way into the ground will lower the height of the pool. You can still adorn it with a viewing deck and enjoy the view from in and out of the pool.
