Prices for above ground pools can vary greatly, ranging from a few hundred dollars for short-term, soft-sided pools to more expensive hard-sided options that are built to last. However, with Doughboy Pools, Embassy Pools, and Radiant Pools, you can find a strong, hard-sided model that fits your budget and backyard since they come in a range of sizes and prices.

The most helpful step you can take when it comes to pricing is to call or visit one of our stores, where a sales representative can help you determine the cost of your envisioned pool based on its size, shape, brand, etc.

Taking care of an above ground pool can be a relatively simple task, provided you do it with regularity. The level of maintenance required for the pool changes depending on a few variables such as the pool’s size and frequency of use.

There are, however, some fundamental maintenance steps that you should perform for any above ground pool, including:

  • Clean the pool using a leaf skimmer, brush, and vacuum to remove dirt, debris, and other impurities.
  • Test and balance the water chemistry.
  • Monitor and manage the pool pump and filter.
  • Maintaining the proper water levels.

By consistently scheduling and performing these maintenance tasks, you can help your above ground pool stay in good condition for many years.

Building a deck around an above ground pool is a popular way to give it the appearance of an inground pool. The deck is usually constructed either slightly above the top rails or directly underneath them. Another option is to install a semi-inground pool (like one of the Radiant Pools we carry), which is sturdy enough to be recessed into the ground or partially buried within a hillside. Doughboy Above Ground Pools are unique in that their super-strong walls and frames enable them to be recessed into the ground or installed in the traditional manner (i.e., on ground level), depending on your preference.

Some popular accessories for above ground pools include pool covers, pool ladders, lighting elements, pool heaters, and maintenance equipment. Other popular accessories include pool toys, floats, and games for entertainment. The specific accessories chosen will depend on the owner's preferences and needs for their pool.

All models of Doughboy Pools can be installed to include a deep swimming area of up to 7 feet when equipped with a Doughboy Expandable liner. As both Doughboy and A-1 Pools are steadfastly committed to swimmer safety, please note that no jumping or diving should take place in the deep swimming area.

We at A-1 Pools will sell you a pool in a package consisting of the pool wall, frame, liner, pump, and filtration system. From there, your next step is to either recruit a contractor to install the pool or install the pool yourself according to manufacturer instructions. We can provide a list of qualified contractors upon request. A-1 Pools does not install pools.

When selecting the location for your above ground pool, it is important to consider several factors. These include the amount of sunlight and shade the area receives, the terrain and slope of the ground, the accessibility for maintenance and cleaning, and proximity to any potential hazards such as trees. Additionally, you should ensure that the location is in compliance with local zoning and building codes. Ensure your pool is not located too close to power lines to avoid any safety hazards. We recommend consulting a professional electrician to ensure that the pool is safely installed and grounded.

The cost of a hot tub can vary depending on factors such as brand, model, size, and features. As of 2023, an entry-level hot tub can cost, on average, somewhere between $4,000 to $6,000, while larger and more advanced models can cost anywhere from $6,000 to $24,000 or more, depending on the design. With two brands and more than 50+ models to choose from, A-1 Pools has fantastic options at every price level.

The cost of operating a hot tub can fluctuate based on several factors, such as the tub’s size, type, temperature settings, and usage frequency. You also need to factor in the expenses of electricity, chemicals, and maintenance. Fortunately, the hot tub models available at A-1 Pools are highly regarded for their energy efficiency, and their integrated sanitation systems help minimize your dependence on spa chemicals. As a result, the estimated highest average expense for hot tub operation is just a few dollars per day. For instance, in 2023, the Bullfrog Spas we sell cost an average of $1.50 per day to operate for our customers in Wisconsin, for comparison purposes.

When considering purchasing a hot tub, it's essential to keep in mind certain features such as the massage jets, hot tub size and seating capacity, energy efficiency level, water filtration system, and overall design and style. Depending on your goals, your preference for each of these features will change. If, for instance, you plan to use a hot tub to address bodily aches and pains, you’ll need to pay particular attention to the ergonomic seating and jet configuration. On the other hand, if you plan to use the hot tub mainly for entertainment, you’ll want to take a look at lighting and audio system packages. When it comes to jets, it's crucial to note that having more jets does not always equate to better performance. Instead, the type and placement of the jets are more crucial in determining the hot tub's hydrotherapy capabilities.

Hot tub maintenance is, generally, pretty simple. Basic maintenance tasks such as testing and balancing the water chemistry, cleaning the filter, and replacing the water can be relatively easy to perform with some basic knowledge and tools. More advanced maintenance tasks such as troubleshooting electrical or plumbing issues may require professional assistance. The key to easy hot tub maintenance is to establish a regular schedule and stay on top of the necessary tasks to prevent larger problems from developing.

There are a variety of popular accessories for hot tubs that can enhance your experience. Some of these accessories include spa steps, handrails, cover lifts, spa covers, water care products, drink trays, and towel racks. Other accessories such as aromatherapy products can also be added for elevated comfort and relaxation.

When considering using a hot tub, some individuals with medical conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes may be concerned about the safety of doing so. It is important to always consult with a healthcare provider prior to starting a hot tub regimen, regardless of one's health status. Although hot tub use may offer benefits to individuals with certain medical conditions, it may also exacerbate the risk or symptoms of other conditions. For example, individuals with certain heart conditions may need to avoid hot tub use in order to prevent an acceleration of their heart rates. It is highly recommended to consult with a physician to assess how an individual's specific health profile may respond to a hot tub environment.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends that the water temperature in your hot tub should not go beyond 104 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent the risk of overheating, fainting, and dizziness (conditions that are made more dangerous in a bathing environment where you can submerge yourself in water). Typically, hot tub users maintain their water temperature at around 100-102 degrees Fahrenheit, while the minimum temperature for hot tub water is about 80 degrees Fahrenheit. It is advisable to choose a comfortable temperature for you and gradually adjust it as needed.

In most cases, yes, a hot tub can be used year-round as long as it is properly maintained and protected from the elements. However, it is important to take into account the local climate and temperature fluctuations, as well as any potential safety hazards such as snow or ice buildup. Therefore, keep a watchful eye on your hot tub’s energy efficiency systems and the condition of the spa cover. As long as you do your due diligence to keep them looking and working properly, you can enjoy your hot tub even in cold Wisconsin winters.

When selecting a location for a hot tub, consider factors such as accessibility, privacy, proximity to electrical and plumbing sources, and the weight-bearing capacity of the surface. You should also consider the potential hazards of the location, such as overhanging tree limbs or exposure to wind and weather. Additionally, ensure that the location is in compliance with local zoning and building codes. A-1 Pools can visit your home and layout the pool location with you for a fee which will be credited back to you with your pool purchase.

The method of hot tub delivery can vary depending on the specific model and retailer, but it typically involves the use of a specialized trailer or truck equipped with a crane or hydraulic lift. A-1’s delivery team will assess the delivery location to ensure that it is accessible and meets the necessary requirements for installation. Once the hot tub is safely delivered, our team will help with installation and setup.

To ensure that your pool is in excellent condition and to detect any problems early on, it is critical to keep a close watch on its structure and connected equipment. There are a few warning signs that indicate that your pool requires maintenance, such as discolored or cloudy water, accumulation of debris or algae, unusual sounds or vibrations emanating from pool equipment, and reduced water flow or pressure.

Technically, it it is time to drain and refill your hot tub when the TDS in the water reaches 2,000 ppm (A-1 Pools can test this in our stores). The general recommendation is to change the water in your hot tub every three to four months, but this may vary based on several factors such as usage, the number of people using the hot tub, the quantity of chemicals utilized, and the quality of water. The more you use your hot tub, the more often you will need to drain and refill the tub with fresh, balanced water.

There are multiple reasons you may notice a drop in your pool’s water levels. They include heavy usage (i.e., splashing), backwashing, and evaporation due to high temperatures or low humidity. In certain cases, your pool may have a leak in the plumbing or the filtration system, or there may be a hole in the liner. If you suspect a leak, contact our service department, and one of our technicians will help you diagnose and repair a leak if necessary.

If your hot tub's water level drops, it may indicate evaporation or a leak somewhere in the system. Evaporation is normal and can cause water levels to decrease slowly over time, but if the drop is sudden or significant, it is more likely to be a leak. It is important to address the issue promptly to prevent further damage and maintain safe and clean water in your hot tub.

To keep your pool strong, safe, and performing its best, there are certain maintenance tasks you should perform on a regular basis. These tasks include checking and balancing the water chemistry, cleaning the skimmer and pump baskets, brushing and vacuuming the pool surfaces, inspecting and cleaning the pool filter, and looking out for any signs of wear. It's also essential to maintain and service your pool equipment, such as heaters, pumps, and automatic cleaners, to ensure they are functioning efficiently. Establish a regular maintenance schedule, and you can prevent larger problems from arising.

Regular, proactive maintenance can help ensure that your hot tub stays in optimal condition. This includes tasks such as checking and balancing the water chemistry, cleaning the filter cartridges, inspecting and maintaining the cover, and checking for any signs of damage or wear. It is generally recommended to clean the hot tub filter cartridges every 4-8 weeks, depending on usage and the manufacturer's recommendations. Additionally, it is crucial to establish a regular maintenance schedule and stick to it to prevent larger problems from developing.

Connecting your pool to its electrical source requires careful consideration and planning to ensure safety and compliance with local electrical codes. When connecting your pool to electricity, it is important to use a licensed electrician and ensure that all wiring and components are properly grounded and bonded. It is also crucial to install Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) breakers that can detect and prevent electrical shock hazards. It is recommended to test GFCI breakers monthly and after any significant electrical work or weather events to ensure they are working correctly and can interrupt power in the event of a ground fault.
